Silver Fox Charters is located in breathtaking Homer, Alaska and has been serving the fishing public since 1974. We are one of Alaska’s most established charter businesses. Our customers have caught more halibut weighing over 100 pounds than any other charter business in Homer. No one travels farther and works harder to provide a quality full day fishing experience. In addition to halibut, we offer ling cod, and salmon fishing charters.
Our halibut season starts in mid April and continues until the end of September. A typical halibut charter is 10 hours long; plus or minus 2 hours; depending on the fishing, tides and weather. Travel time to the fishing grounds can be from 40 minutes to 2.5 hours. You will be fishing in a water depth between 20 to 500 feet. The daily catch limit per person is 2 halibut per day. They average 20 to 30 lbs. each, but many weigh in at over 100 lbs. The halibut fillet out at about 50 to 60% of their hanging weight. Flash freezing, vacuum packing, and shipping is available locally. We supply all the fishing tackle, bait, and fish filleting/cleaning.
King Salmon (Chinook) fishing is best May until mid June. They range from 10 lbs. to as much as 60 lbs. Immature king salmon, commonly called "feeder kings” can be caught any time of the year. Silver Salmon (Coho) are available mid July thru September, with their peak run the first 3 weeks of August. They range from 8 to 20 lbs. Salmon fishing is conducted in water depths from a few feet near shore to the middle of Cook Inlet . We troll with downriggers, or we fish weights and herring on the drift (mooching). It just depends on the species, weather, tides and time of year. Red, Pink and Chum Salmon are also caught in this manner.
We have two sizes of vessels to accommodate our clients . We run five 30' vessels and one 56' vessel. All boats have twin diesel engines and the latest navigational equipment. Each boat has a heated, comfortable cabin with restrooms. Our 56' vessel provides 12 bunks for overnight, long range trophy trips.
You should bring a lunch, drinks, rain gear, and water-proof foot wear for our day trips. Dress in warm layered clothing, light gloves and be sure to bring a camera to capture the abundant wildlife and spectacular scenery during your charter.
