| Frequently Asked Questions |
"What do we need for clothes?"
We recommend dressing in “layers.” You should bring a sweatshirt or sweater, jacket, hat and a pair of light gloves. Be sure to include rain gear and water-proof foot wear. Do not wear hip boots or waders on board.
"What is an average day's catch?"
On an average day, you can expect to catch two fish in the 15-30 lb. range. A halibut will dress out at about 50%, so you should have about 30 lbs. of fillets per person on an average day.
"What about processing and shipping?"
Silver Fox will fillet the fish. There are several local companies who will pick up the fillets, flash freeze, vacuum pack and ship Fed-X or UPS. See Coal Point .
"What else should we bring?"
Bring lunch, drinks and snacks for the day. A camera and sunglasses are highly recommended.
"How big are the boats?"
Our boats are 30' and 56’. The 30’ vessels accommodate six people plus the skipper. The 56’ vessel accommodates 7 to 20 people on one-day trips and a maximum of 12 people on overnight fishing trips. All have restrooms and enclosed heated cabins. They all have twin diesel engines and are equipped with the latest electronics.
"How long are the trips?"
Trips are usually 10 hours (+ or - 2 hours). Running time is 1 ½ - 2 hours to the fishing grounds.
"When is the best time to plan a trip?"
The early and late runs are less crowded with lower rates and the fishing and weather can be just as good as peak season. During our Peak season reservations are required and expect a crowd.
